Code of Conduct

The L. E. Phillips Senior Center is a gathering place for individuals 50+ to maintain independence through access to programming, which develops skills to enhance their social, emotional, and physical well-being.

We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our members, visitors, and staff.  The following Code of Conduct has been adopted by our Board of Directors to create a respectful, supportive, relaxed, and pleasurable environment for all.   

Center members will:

  • Observe Center rules and regulations.
  • Treat all participants, volunteers, and staff with kindness, courtesy, and respect.
  • Support and accept one another’s differences.
  • Welcome visitors and new members.
  • Be open to assisting new volunteers.  Be helpful and cooperative.
  • Refrain from using insulting, abusive, and/or derogatory language.  If you are being spoken to in such a way, please seek the assistance of a staff member. 
  • Accept alternate facility assignments or modification to schedules due to maintenance, scheduling conflicts, and emergency situations.
  • Treat the Center and private property with respect.

 

The following is not acceptable conduct:

  • Profanity, vulgarity, or explicit sexual language.
  • Hate speech or epithets (e.g. racial, ethnic, sexist, homophobic and religious slurs).
  • Promotion of or engaging in any illegal activities.
  • Participating while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Harassment of any kind. 
  • Fighting, physical and/or verbal abuse, destroying or damaging property.

The Board of Directors of the L. E. Phillips Senior Center believes that the majority of the Center members will adhere to this Code of Conduct.  However, violating the Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action to be determined by staff.  Sanctions range from a verbal or written reprimand, membership suspension or expulsion.
